Your Online Image #2
You are the young manager of a local ice cream parlor that is beloved by local families. You are looking to hire some teens for the summer, when the shop is open late every evening. You require an application and at least one reference. It occurs to you that you could look on Facebook to find out a bit more about the applicants.
What might you find that would make you not hire someone?
Is there anything wrong with using Facebook in this way?

There are things wrong with using your own facebook for work purposes, they might not like what you post on your account. They might not like who your friends are also.
ReplyDeleteImagine you own a business, you want only the best employees. You'd probably check Facebook too.
DeleteEspecially if they posted about doing drugs or something, I don't think anyone would want to hire people who are doing illegal things.
DeleteI agree, nobody wants to hire a drug addict.
DeleteI agree. if they see your involved with drugs you may not be as reliable therefor they may not want to hire you.
DeleteYou wouldn't want to hire someone who has a bad reputation all over the town
DeleteThe reason i would be looking on Facebook is to see if i don't like them, I don't want some lazy kid working for me.
DeleteSeeing them doing bad things in pictures or talking bad about somebody or something. I think it kinda gets into someones privacy, but what you post online is out there for everyone.
ReplyDeleteI agree, anyone can see what you post.
DeleteI think an Employer has the right to know who they're hiring, if that means they look at someone's Facebook, then that's alright for me.
ReplyDeleteI agree, you wanna make sure you have the best employee's out there.
DeleteI agree the thing they post or comment could reflect on how they would do their job.
DeleteI agree, its better to know who your hiring
DeleteI agree you would like to have the best employees.
DeleteI agree because if you find anything bad on their facebook it can tell you they probably wont be a good employer to your store.
DeleteI agree, you can generally tell what kind of person they are by looking at that.
DeleteI agree, you can get know who they are a little better.
DeleteI agree, you can get to know the person you might hire a little more and see if they are a hard worker.
DeleteI agree, they have the right to see how that person acts online before they hire them
DeleteI really don't think there is anything wrong with looking at a possible workers social media, it's out there publicly.
ReplyDeleteExactly everyone can see what u put on there anyways.
DeleteI agree, if you are posting it for the whole world to see theres nothing wrong with looking at it if its going to be a possible worker.
DeleteI think this a simple way to find out about the person without asking other people if they know them.
DeleteI agree once you put it out there it is out there forever.
DeleteI agree because theres nothing wrong with finding out more about the person you are hiring.
DeleteIf someone posts something for everyone to see, then businesses can look too. If you post something inappropriate you have be aware anyone can see it, even potential employers.
DeleteI think it matters what job it is because for a summer ice cream parlor I don't think you need to check their Facebook. But if it is for a serious career then checkig there Facebook if totally fine.
ReplyDeletei agree, if it isn't a serious job but if it's a lifetime career then yes.
Deleteif you need to hide something, dont post it!
ReplyDeleteThat's Right
DeleteYeah, that's right.
DeleteI Agree
DeleteI totally think it would be ok for a employer to go and look at your social media. If you arn't posting anything bad you should'nt have no concern. Its a good way to see how responsible you are outside of work.
ReplyDeleteI agree because its important to know who you are hiring.
DeleteI agree because how you act outside of the job you could act like that in work.
DeleteI agree 19875%
DeleteI agree 100% on this, you need to make sure your not hiring a bad kid or a criminal.
DeleteI 100% agree
DeleteIf I was hiring someone and they had a facebook i'd probably look them up to get additional information because its important to know who you are hiring. I dont think there is anything wrong with searching someone up who could possible be a part of your store. Looking someone up could tell you if the person is a bad influence or they are good. If I found any inappropriate pictures of comments I woudn't hire them.
ReplyDeleteIts important for employers to know what they would be like as employees. If they are inappropriate on social media, business's have a right to deny a person.
DeleteI would not like to find that the person could be a troubled member of the community.
ReplyDeleteIf I was hiring someone for a job, i'd definitely look at their social media to get some information to see what kind of person they are.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Corbin on this subject but i would go farther than that, i would ask their parents on how they are or their friends. I feel like an opinion from someone else would be way better from my perspective.
DeleteI think what i might find that would change my decision would be being inappropriate like posting stupid things on Facebook which would include posts about threatening subjects or maybe sexual references or anything like that. But if you have a good reputation and don't post bad things like that, you should be fine.
ReplyDeleteI agree because if I were looking into hiring someone and I checked their profile and saw that they did not have a good online image it would make me change my mind on hiring them
DeleteI believe that it is perfectly okay for an employer to look at a possible employee's Facebook, it is out there and free to look at and you may see a side of them that isn't on the application.
ReplyDeleteI think if someone post something "bad" on Facebook, you might get an idea who they are, but you that doesn't mean they had don't good work ethic, and show up to work on time. I think it's a good thing to look them up on Facebook and see who they are. If I hired someone and they showed up on time and worked hard, and came when they were suppose too, they can post what ever they want on Facebook.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't hire anyone who has a lot of profanity or racial jokes on their Facebook page.
ReplyDeleteI Think its perfectly fine to look someone up before hiring them to see what kind of person they are.
ReplyDeleteIf I owned a store and was hiring I feel like I would have the right to see what they are posting online to the public to see what kind of person they really are. There's nothing wrong with checking to see what they do online if you want to hire them.
ReplyDeleteI think its ok for a store to use facebook to search applicants. If someone puts something on the internet they should expect that their future employers would look at their social profile.
ReplyDeleteYou can always keep your thing priviate so only you and your buddies can see it.
ReplyDeleteYou can always keep your thing priviate so only you and your buddies can see it.
ReplyDeleteYou could find inappropriate pictures and it's okay but I would let them know that you are going to do that.
