March of the Machines
Technology is making our lives simpler, and helping industry to be more efficient, but is it at the cost of our jobs?
Everyone thinks about "what they want to be when they grow up". Do you have to take another look at what you've planned, or start thinking of a new career, because of advances in technology? If you think about it, it's a good thing that we've rolled out the ACP program, because it's important to be aware of what your talents, skill and abilities are, and how they align with what's waiting out there in the world.
What is the job market going to look like when you look for that first job?
Discuss this idea. I've just given you a couple of questions to get the thought process going.
60 Minutes: "March of the Machines"

I'd rather have a robot cut me open and do a surgery, then a human. The robot will not get anxious, it will not forget what to do and it would be programmed to perfection in order to get me healthy.
ReplyDeleteI agree, but it could also end up making a mistake cause of malfunctions or a glitch in the programming.
DeleteIf there is a human in that position they should also be "programmed" to do the job they have been trained to do.
DeleteI do agree with Raven and Mackenzie on this on one, if your gonna have a programmed machine do a surgery for you thats great so you wouldn't have to worry that much but it could malfunction and it could be even worse for you. Besides like Kenzie said, that certain person should be trained very well and should know how to do their job. Thats why they went to college and studied for a long time to learn how to do it, if they weren't experienced they would not have been hired.
DeleteI don't know about you, but i don't wanna die cause a robot had a little malfunction
DeleteYeah I agree, a robot will not get nervous during a surgery. It will not make little to no errors.
Deleteyes i agree a robot will not mess up a surgery
Deleteyeah, the robot is programmed to do what it has to so there wont be a mistake unless there is a mistake while putting in the programing.
DeleteI woudnt want that, what if there was a malfunction with the software they are using.
DeleteBut robots can be much more accurte than humans.
DeleteI think it'd be okay for technology to take over some jobs like the ones people don't really want to do anymore, because we still need someone or something doing the job. I feel like there's still going to be plenty of jobs by the time I go into the work force I only have a couple more years
ReplyDeleteI agree with Kenzie on this one also, the not so important jobs would be fine for having technology to take it over. But there are still plenty of options out there for me and other people that shouldn't or don't have to have technology take it over.
DeleteI agree, jobs that people just don't want to do, or that aren't safe, robots could do.
DeleteYeah, Robots can do all the jobs
DeleteI agree, the jobs most people don't want to do or dosn't pay that good robots should be able to do.
DeleteI think that for the jobs that are too easy to do or the ones that aren't really important anymore you can use technology for. There are a lot of jobs to choose from that you wouldn't need a lot of technology for. I know for the job i wanna do wouldn't need that much technology. There are still a lot of options for me after high school and for other people too. I don't think there is anything to worry about.
ReplyDeleteI feel like within our life time, we wont have to worry about robots taking over all of our jobs, but at the same time who knows what could happen in the future.
DeleteI don't think technology will take over our jobs because their only used for jobs that human don't want, like ones in factories
Deletei agree people dont want the job the robots are taking
DeleteI feel like there are many jobs that robots could do better than humans, but it goes both ways. For example, I'd rather have a robot who was programmed to build, build my house, but I'd rather have a human as a teacher for example.
ReplyDeleteIt will also give humans a break on doing all the heavy lifting
DeleteI agree, there's some jobs that just simply can't be replaced and require a human thought process
DeleteThis could save health problems too, heavy lifting does tend to hurt people in old age.
DeleteI agree, there should be robots who are programmed to do specific tasks for humans.
DeleteI agree, it would be great to have robots to do heavy lifting and harder tasks.
DeleteI agree, robots would be here to do the jobs we can't but there are many jobs that we NEED humans to do
DeleteRobots wouldn't be bad on production lines and such to improve efficiency, but there's some jobs that just cant be replaced like a mechanic or a teacher
ReplyDeleteI agree, maybe somethings would be easier for machines to do easier things
DeleteI agree, production lines would be a good job for robots, but I can't see a robot being a teacher.
DeleteI think in the future robots could do any job they want.
DeleteProduction lines are great for robots.
DeleteI feel like it would be good for machines to do jobs because humans still need to make the machines, fix them, and there are just some things that machines will never be able to do.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I think its a good idea for machines to do jobs.
DeleteI think it would be good for robots to take over repetitive low paying jobs, but I don't think it would be good for robots to take over a lot of jobs then a lot of people won't have jobs.
ReplyDeleteI agree if robots do all the jobs then the people wont have any.
DeleteI think that robots should do jobs that aren't necessary for humans to do. There are some jobs that required a person, but repetitive jobs like maintenance or factory jobs should be done by machines.
ReplyDeleteI agree some jobs are meant for robots or else I believe people can do the jobs.
DeleteI agree, robots could take over the simple jobs that have no need for humans.
DeleteI think that if robots took over some jobs it wouldn't be bad it could be easier in some ways. The robots wouldn't get tired and they could do the job all day long if its a repetitive job like in a factory or else if it was more hands on like in a hospital it wouldn't be necessary because I think humans could do a better job then robots when it comes to surgery.
ReplyDeleteI agree that the robots could do the jobs no one else wants to.
DeleteI agree, it would be easier are more convienient having robots do more jobs. The robots could work non stop and get more done.
DeleteI feel that a robot doing surgery on me would be a little sketchy but they won't have the same problems while cutting me open like a human would.
ReplyDeleteI believe that the robots are taking the jobs that nobody wants so people are complaing about nothing
ReplyDeleteI don't think it is a bad thing because the robots are doing the jobs that no one wants to do. Plus it gives new jobs for people to fix the robots and make sure they work.
ReplyDeleteI think that it would be good for robots to do the jobs that people don't want to do or that dont pay good. robots should do all factory work cause they can work non stop unlike people.
ReplyDeleteTechnology is taking over peoples jobs which is stupid honestly.
ReplyDeleteI agree it is taking over.
DeleteIt goes both ways, I don't think robots should take all our jobs but some they can. It's kind of dumb that robots are said to "take over the world". The jobs are put there for us to make money. The robots will cost more to buy/make than to pay people and if they break you have to find someone to fix it or buy a whole new one so in the end, it's not worth the money nor the hassle of buying robots
ReplyDeleteI think eventully it wil completly take over and quite a few people will be jobless.
