The Cloud
You've probably heard it said that the world has gotten smaller. This is true because, since the development of the Internet (the 'Cloud') and such things as Tweeting, texting, instant messaging, social networking (Facebook, Instagram), we've grown much closer. The distance between us, geographically, doesn't matter near as much anymore.
In many ways, this is a good thing. But, in some ways - not so much. While the world has grown closer together, we're also closer to those people who would try to hurt us or take advantage of us. Most people are good - but it's easier than ever for those that aren't to target people who aren't prepared, or aware of the dangers.
So, you've just met a student who has NEVER been on the internet. Their family just moved to the area, and just signed up for internet access at home for the first time. Knowing what you know right now, what would you warn that person about? What would you tell them to be careful of, when they're on the Web? How would you tell them to behave - what precautions should they take?
You don't have to look this up - base it on what you already know - what you've already learned. You CAN research a little on the internet, if you need to...

I would tell this person to be careful of sharing personal information. Many people on the internet aren't who they say they are, and could easily take advantage of someone who isn't aware of the dangers.
ReplyDeleteyes I agree you need to be very careful in the internet
DeleteWell you could find out who the person is and then give them your information, right?...
DeleteI absolutely agree wit Kailey on this one, you never know who is gonna be searching on the internet and coincidentally finds you and sees your personal information and then decides to track you down.
DeleteI agree never give anyone personal information.
DeleteI agree, you should never give out your personal information especially when you don't know who it is in person because they could be anyone.
DeleteI agree, giving out personal information could have horrible consequences.
DeleteSharing personal information is a terrble thing to do over the internet espiccaly if u don't know them!

ReplyDeletei would tell them to watch out for clicking on advertisements that ask for personal information or another user that asks for personal information. you need to be very careful about what you say online too
ReplyDeleteMake sure they know not to give out there social security to a Arabian Prince.
DeleteI agree with Jack completely about this, you definitely needs to watch out for things that ask you for personal info whether its a person or an advertisement. You also definitely need to watch what you say on the internet also because something you might say or post might give away your identity or it could be offensive to someone else and then it could all go downhill from there.
DeleteI agree, even if it says to click here to clean your pc because there is a virus, tell them just to exit the page and not to click anything
DeleteI agree with the advertisements. Lots of people are unaware that most of the ads on websites will bring you to something different then what is being advertised.
DeleteJack is 100% correct, don't click on any advertisements because they can kill you or steal your personal information.
DeleteI agree, they could steal your information and they could also give your device a virus
DeleteI would tell the new student i met to definitely be careful about what they do on the internet. There is a lot of people out there on the web that do not have good intentions. Examples include hackers, online predators, etc. Be careful what you post and always make sure that you don't give out any personal information. If you do make your account private so if anybody tries to follow you or contact you that you don't know, they can't see you information. Always assume nobody is who they say they are, that way you can be more aware of the dangers and keep yourself out of trouble.
ReplyDeleteI agree with your private account idea
DeleteI think private accounts could save someone from a lot of the dangers online. Making a private account allows someone to choose who sees their information. I think this is a safe option, especially for a kid or teenager.
DeleteMaking your account private is really important so strangers can't get your personal information.
DeleteI would tell the student not to fall for any of the scams, like "You just won a brand new Iphone for being our 4895th costumer". Those things are dumb.
ReplyDeleteI agree even if it seems like such a good deal to get something for free. don't click on it
DeleteWhen I was younger, I used to think those were real, thankfully I never actually went through with whatever they have you do. 😂
DeleteI agree Brayden, those are stupid and can ask for personal information
DeleteI agree, they can ask for information and shouldn't be clicked on
DeleteFor some reason they ask for your social sometimes.... seems a little odd to me.
DeleteI would tell the new student to be careful about sharing your personal information online especially to someone they've never met. Since the internet is available to anyone it is important to know who your talking to because you never know if they could be dangerous. I would also tell the student to look out for scams.
ReplyDeleteI agree because they might never know who they're actually talking to and some strangers might not be nice or good to talk to.
DeleteI agree because it's easier to talk to someone online then in person so that makes it easier for someone take advantage of you, like getting personal information.
DeleteId tell them not to ever give anyone your personal information. Do not fall for advertisements or anything that pops up.
ReplyDeleteI agree because ads/ pop ups could lead to a virus on their computer
DeleteThen once they have the virus on your computer they can control it to the point, to where they know where you live and all your secret informtion. i think it's a terrible idea to click on random adds that seem to good to be true.
DeleteId also tell them not to share your IP address, Never facetime any random people.
ReplyDeleteNot to share personal info on website or email, like address and credit card info unless you are buying something. Not to click on random pop ups of saying you won something. If they are on a website and it randomly pops up sign into Facebook or other social media not to sign in.
ReplyDeleteI would warn them of all the harms of the internet and tell them the basics like not to give out their personal information or talk and meet up with strangers and all that but then I would tell them about all the good things of the internet and how to use it to be safe and smart
ReplyDeleteI agree that you should tell them the harms of the internet and tell them basic things like not to give out your personal information which is very important not to tell anyone.
DeleteI agree with not talking to anyone you dont know. And not to meet up with them cause some people arent who they say they are.

ReplyDeleteI would warn them not to trust strangers online. I would also tell them not to post anything too personal on a social media plat from because it could be out there forever. I'd also tell them to watch out for viruses and scams.
ReplyDeleteI agree posting anything personal can lead to strangers finding out about your personal information which can lead to bad things and also it is important to keep away from scams and viruses because clicking on anything that could lead you to giving out your personal information is bad.
DeleteI Agree if you post anything to personal it will always be on the iternet no matter what.
DeleteI would tell them to not give out any personal information like your address or credit card information.
ReplyDeleteI agree, if one got a hold of your personal information it could possibly ruin ones life and cause some major problems.
DeleteI agree posting your information like that you could get your idenity stolen.
DeleteI would tell them to never show personal information or click on certain ads for they could have a virus.
ReplyDeleteI agree you shouldn't put personal information online
DeleteI would tell them to never post any personal information Online. It could lead to very bad things like getting idenity stolen, and stocked. Also you have to be very cautious on what you post on your social media. You dont want to be posting inappropriate pictures that will stay on the web forever.
ReplyDeleteI would let the person know that not all websites are safe, and that should never share private information with someone you don't know. Stay on the secure websites and be careful on searching for stuff
ReplyDeleteYes, some websites bring you somewhere you didn't search.
DeleteI would tell them not to talk to anyone you don't know in real life and to be careful what websites they explore because not all are safe because they could steal your information or track your location.
ReplyDeleteI agree you shouldn't talk to anyone you don't know
DeleteI agree you don't talk to people you don't know.
DeleteI would tell them about how dangerous the internet is and talk about how to stay away from these things.
ReplyDeleteI would say don't put your personal information online
